If you are a foreigner, like I am, you might have done your research in English and would have seen a lot of reviews that the 11th Generation Kindle Paperwhite is one of the best mid-range e-readers out there in the market. It’s responsive, easy to use, and just makes reading an enjoyable experience.
There are a few things that this reader doesn’t offer if you purchase and use it in Japan though: 1) Borrow e-books from your local library through the Libby app from OverDrive, and 2) Built-in Audible so you can listen to audiobooks and switch between reading and listening on Bluetooth headphones or speakers. While I already knew about not being able to use Libby, it was upsetting for me to find out that the built-in Audible feature doesn’t exist. It was the reason I purchased the 16GB version instead of the 8GB. And while I know this future wasn’t written in the Japanese advertising of the product, this distinction would have been good to know before taking the plunge because it is easy to assume that these devices would work the same way around the world.
